At the farm this past weekend I wanted to share some videos with my dad and father-in-law.
I knew what I wanted to do. I had the “tools” (my Mac). I knew how to “do the work” — access YouTube. But I lacked a connection; no Wi-Fi.
Completely stuck. Success blocked. I was disconnected.
Connections
Connections link people and things together.
Connected people enjoy innovation. They link needs with solutions. When they connect feedback from unproductive behavior to a willingness to learn and change, they experience future success.
Leadership development requires connection. Achieving your full potential demands connection with people you trust and respect.
High Quality Connections
Authentic relationship is the greenhouse of personal development. Your shoots stretch higher, colors bloom brighter when you surround yourself with “high quality connections”: interactions characterized by mutuality, interdependence, and empathic and empowering processes. That’s where next level personal growth and learning explodes with juicy fruit for all parties. (Dutton, 2003; Dutton & Heaphy, 2003; Stephens et al, 2011)
How I Got Unstuck
I opened a door to the internet called a Mobile Hotspot. Software supported the connection between my iPhone and my Mac; tethering. My dad and father-in-law enjoyed the videos after Sunday lunch. We grew and enjoyed each other’s fragrance even more.
Where are you disconnected? How could you open the door?
Here’s to your Next Level,
Steve
