By the time you receive this, I’ll be returning from a trip to the mountains. That’s right, I’m creating space.
For Rita and I, it’s borderline “past due.”
But, it’s happening. Flights are booked and a rental car reserved.
The mountain house sits at an elevation of 10,000 feet on 4 acres, 4 miles outside the small town of Fair Play, Colorado, west of Colorado Springs.
It’s a spacious place with a story. Fair Play is “a historic gold mining settlement, founded in 1859 during the early days of the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. The town was named by settlers who were upset by the generous mining claims given to the earliest prospectors and promised a more equitable system for its residents.”
Now you know.
Here’s what I’d like to know
How are you?
How well are you creating space? On a scale of 1 to 6, what’s your number? Seriously, a 1 is “chaos” and 6 is “pinch me, this is too good to be true.” Productive. Engaged. Peace. Joy. Relationally connected. Sleeping well. Good nutrition. Active physically and spiritually. Happy.
So, when was the last time you created space to take care of yourself so you can serve others? Make room to receive renewal and restoration, have time to reflect on your Story?
Of course, it may not be a 9-day trip to the mountains, or a weekend at the beach, or a trip to the farm. Or, maybe it is. It could be a daily appointment (with yourself) to tune into to the feedback, experience, success, and failure in the Story.
Yes, it can be as little as 5 or 10 minutes. It can be first thing in the morning, at the end of the day or right after lunch. Creating space to invest in your development as a human being and a self-managed leader.
The Best Predictor of Future Success
is the ability & willingness to learn & change
achieved through consistent reflection
on truth in your Story.
Here’s to your Next Level,
Steve
PS: Write your number and how you plan to create space in the comments section below. Let’s see if we can empower each other, start a community of people dedicated to creating space for ourselves to reflect, so we can give our best selves to everyone around us
